For a Beautiful Smile, Visit the Orthodontist Canton, MI, Trusts

September 3, 2015

smiling young woman giving thumbs upOn the surface, orthodontics—or braces as most people call them—are all about having a straighter smile. And while a straight and more attractive smile is an important goal of having braces, it is by no means the only reason. For example, orthodontics may be needed to correct a malocclusion or improper bite that is causing headaches, stress and jaw pain. At Robison Dental Group, Canton dentist Dr. J.D. Robison offers both traditional orthodontics as well as Invisalign® to not only make smiles more attractive, but healthier, too.

Straight Teeth for Every Family Member with Orthodontics in Canton, MI

November 15, 2014

87717422Sometimes, when a parent takes a child to the orthodontist for braces, they see those young teeth becoming straighter and they think, “How about me?” But then they might think, “I don’t need a mouth full of metal at my age.” At Robison Dental Group in Canton, MI, your child can have traditional orthodontics to straighten their teeth, while you have Invisalign® clear braces for yours. The best of both worlds are available in one convenient location with Dr. J.D. Robison.

Braces, of course, are designed to straighten crooked or crowded teeth, an incorrect bite and jaw problems. Traditional braces consist of metal brackets that are secured to the teeth with special dental cement and then connected with a wire. This wire is held in place with bands that now come in a rainbow of colors. So, for younger patients, braces can be a chance to show school spirit or just have fun with color. These braces require scheduled appointments for tightening and changing the wire in order to control the pressure, which moves the teeth into place.

For adults, Invisalign clear braces—as the name implies—straighten teeth almost invisibly. So, if the concern is that having braces might compromise your social or professional life, then Invisalign can allay those concerns. These braces straighten teeth with clear BPA-free plastic aligners. You’ll wear each set of aligners for your upper and lower arches for about two weeks and then move on to the next set. As you progress, you’ll begin to see your teeth gradually straighten. Most patients can complete their treatment with Invisalign in about one year.

How Long Do I Need to Wear My Invisalign Braces Each Day?

July 1, 2013

If you’ve researched Invisalign, you know that the aligners you’ll wear are removable. But does that mean you need to wear them all day long?

That will depend in part on the personal instructions you receive from Dr. John Robison or Dr. J.D. Robison. In general, though, the answer to that question is yes.

For Invisalign to work efficiently, pressure needs to be applied to teeth for at least 22 hours a day. So, when should you take your aligners out? To eat or drink, and for brushing and flossing. As a result, Invisalign lets you enjoy the same kind of diet you enjoyed before you started treatment. Plus, by taking your aligners out for brushing and flossing, patients are able to clean parts of their smile that would be harder to clean with bracket-and-wire braces.

In some cases, you may be able to take your aligners out for special events. This might include a night out with friends or a special date. But to achieve the results you want in the average treatment time of 12-18 months, it’s best to wear your aligners for the recommended amount of time each day.

Do you want to learn more about how Invisalign can help you enjoy a straighter smile without the need or metal brackets or wires? Call Robison Dental Group to schedule a consultation with Dr. John Robison or Dr. J.D. Robison.  Our dental team serves patients from Canton, Ann Arbor, Northville, Westland, Plymouth, and beyond.

Invisalign: A Clear Alternative to Traditional Braces

August 28, 2012

If you’ve dreamed of a straighter smile but think the only way to achieve one is with traditional braces, you’re missing out. At Robison Dental Group, we offer a revolutionary orthodontic solution called Invisalign that’s helping us change the lives of Canton-area teens and adults.

What makes Invisalign different? The answer is threefold. Invisalign is:

  • Clear
  • Removable
  • Convenient

Now, let’s take a look at each one of these.

Traditional braces use effective but unattractive brackets and wires to gradually move teeth into their ideal position. Invisalign, on the other hand, relies on a series of clear trays instead, each of which is custom-made for your smile and is intended to bring you closer and closer to your goal. And because your aligners are clear, you can look forward to treatment that’s more discreet and unobtrusive, leaving you feeling more confident as you go to work or school.

Besides being clear, there’s another benefit to Invisalign—your aligners are removable. What that means is you can still enjoy all your favorite foods by simply taking out your aligners when it’s time to eat. But that’s not all it means. By taking out your aligners to brush and floss, you can keep your teeth cleaner than you can with traditional braces, which can encourage tooth decay and gum disease.

Both of the above combine to make treatment with Invisalign a more convenient orthodontic solution for Canton-area patients to consider. Because Invisalign uses clear trays instead of brackets and wires, no tightening appointments are needed. Instead, we’ll just need to check your progress periodically. And because removable trays make it easier to keep your teeth clean, future appointments for common oral health problems are less likely.

Are you ready to talk about how Invisalign can help you? Call Robison Dental Group today to schedule an appointment with Dr. John R. Robison or Dr. J.D. Robison. Our doctors serve patients from Ann Arbor, Northville, Westland, and Plymouth.

Achieve a Straighter Smile with Invisalign Clear Braces

May 18, 2012

As a busy adult, you have a professional image you’ve worked hard to cultivate. But if you’ve been considering braces, you may be worried that you’ll have to sacrifice that image.

The good news is that’s not the case at all. With Robison Dental Group, patients from Canton and surrounding areas can enjoy a straighter, more attractive smile with Invisalign clear braces.

How Does Invisalign Work?

As one of the most popular and effective cosmetic services available, Invisalign uses a series of custom-made acrylic aligners to straighten teeth.

To treat your smile, you’ll simply wear each pair for about two weeks. As you move from one pair to the next, your aligners will gradually bring your teeth into their ideal alignment until you reach your goal 12-18 months later. Because Invisalign’s aligners are clear, you can finally achieve your goal of a straighter smile without drawing negative attention to your teeth.

But there’s also another benefit to Invisalign—your aligners are removable.

Why is that so great?

First, because you can take them out for special events, like a party, a dinner with friends, a special meeting at work, and so much more. But even greater than this, because your Invisalign aligners are removable, you can take them out to brush and floss. This is one of Invisalign’s greatest advantages over traditional braces.  With traditional braces, the presence of brackets and wires can make it difficult to keep teeth clean, which can result in tooth decay and other problems. But with Invisalign, you can remove your braces to brush and floss, giving your smile the thorough cleansing it needs to stay strong, healthy, and beautiful.
